Default No community

I've been doing mmog's for over 8 years now and there is something missing from GW when it comes to community (the lack of). Now this isn't specific to GW as it has become to the norm in most mmog's these days but I hope it can be fixed. Now these are just quick and mostly silly ideas meant just to start the subject.

1 People need places to congregate (note the frog followers). Even things as silly as the frog can be used to give players a reason to call a certain place home. Anarchy Online had it's burger joints, Matrix has it's nightclubs, UO has it's banks, ect ect.

2 I have read that ways to customize our appearence is in the works so please keep this coming as right now we all look alike and might as well be stick figures when it comes to appearence.

3 Give us a way to chat that is distance based so that if you are too far from the person talking you don't hear them but if you are in range they can be using different fonts, colors and unique ways to communicate. Anything to give folks a reason to interact. Maybe make this possible if you have local turned off then all chat in town works this way.

4 Add more emotes that are maybe only usable on a stage-type areas in order to bring people together.

I know these are mostly silly ideas but I want to see GW become more than just a soloing game of isolation due to the instanced main world areas and trade filled local chat towns (which just drives folks to turn off local chat).

Please feel free to add your ideas on ways to add a sense of community to GW.

yeah, i have noticed that a lot of the games these days seperate inot the have's and the have-not though....

like the idea of the Stage though....yesterday i think, or satday maybe there was a free (please donate if you wanna) concert going on in lions arch euro english1.
a trio of monk males were alterately playing the drums and dancing together, a mesmer man was playing the flute, and a nerco lady was dacing and singin karaoke

with small, conected to the town but not outside maps, you could even mess about doing plays and even try shakespear....the tempest or midsummer night dream might go down well ^^

jeddak, why not ask for a RPG chat setup?
make you carry a certain item in your inventry to be able to hear this type of chat from a distance..or maybe an equipable itme, such as pendant or ear-ring?

and bars, pubs, eating places, public baths and ectera could maybe boost....
perhaps a Hirelings Hall for the henchies...i feel sorry for the poor kids having to stand about all day....all weathers...
and definately an Auction Hall to go stick the WTS/WTB/WTT spammers in, and a Group Hall for the LFG bashers....if we want you, then we will KNOW where to go to get you ^^

I agree. Each person is the same, each town is basically the same as the last (just different environments) etc.

When you look at the towns, all have nothing spectacular to offer.
The only places that stand apart (for no fabulous reasons) are,

1) Lions arch because it's considered the trade capital of Tyria
2) Errr...

OK, scrub that.

Caged animals in cities. You could make these animals interact with people or objects. Imagine buying a banana for a caged grasping ghoul and watch him spit it out or even throw it at you through the bars.
Drop him a dwarven ale and watch him fall over and stuff.

I'd love to see an ettin thumping the ground of his paddock and trying to get out. Make him climb the bars and have an archer shoot him down with a distracting shot. There is a similar thing in D'allessio.

Lets have the fireworks which we saw in the promotional videos (i assume they were in beta?).
I would pay money for stuff like that. It's more fun than dwarven ale to have such toys.

Give us an arena in town where people can fight each other. Whoever enters the ring is able to take damage/give damage (use spells)/kill steal.
I've played a game that had the same system and it was really popular with people. You'd have noobs entering the ring and try their luck on a pro and get owned in 5 shots.
It could earn you recognition in that arena too if i recall correctly. Stay there all day if you wanted, just res at the shrine and jump back in.
Quite fun to watch and even more fun to play.

Have interactive features such as fountains.
Flick the lever and the water fountain changes style or something.

Those boring NPC's in town...make them bump into each other and have a brawl on a few rare occasions. Make the victor random.
They add interest to their lifeless and mundane routines.

At the entrance to certain towns, have a horse and cart make an appearance through the portal around twice a week or something...to symbolise the merchant getting restocked (just eye candy and nothing would actually change at the merchant [or could it?] )
On that note, perhaps that trade caravan could bring rare and exotic luxuries to the merchants (which would be really exciting to actually see it come through the portal). Each person could only buy one luxury at a time to prevent them buying the whole stock and making a big profit.
What exotics? Perhaps fireworks as previously mentioned, degradeable armour attachments (-1 damage for 10,000 hits, -2 for 9000, -3 for 8000,-4 for 7000 and -5 damage for 5000 hits).
Special clothing items (clothing will become normal soon anyway). "I can't wait for the caravan to come, i'm hoping he has a cowboy hat today!"

We saw the craze at the price crash, i mean...balance. It would be the same with the caravan. People would go crazy for it and spend lots of gold on this once or twice a week event in specific towns.

Dwarven brass bands occasionally turning up at towns to play music. It could be a thankyou for defeating the stoned summit.

Have a jester in town. Give him 10 gold and he does some neat tricks for you.

Have a charity NPC. People give the NPC absolutely anything of value and it goes into a fund. At the end of the week, this stuff is shared between 100 players at random.
Imagine logging on and having a popup saying "Grats!! You have won some items from the Ascalon orphans charity box!" [Take all]

Hmmm, what we got?
64 gold
a 2-3 longsword
a dwarven ale
3 wood planks
a max rare air staff
a minor soul reaping rune

People throw so much stuff in the garbage bin...why not make that stuff useful? Some players would enjoy a box full of goodies on a rare occasion. I would donate to such a fun thing and add enjoyment to the community.

This would be fun. Instead of just deleting the items thrown into the garbage bin, it could randomly give it to a player, and that player could either accept the item or decline and have it go to another random person. It would have to remove the thrown away quest items, though, and would end up being a horrible anti-gold sink

Things like fireworks would be fun too. Choose your effects, colours, possibly size, and how long you want it to last, then get a price for it and have it affect the district / instance when used for how ever long it's supposed to last. You could use it to celebrate that difficult guild battle victory, or even just to brighten up Ascalon for a few minutes.

But yeah, it'd be nice to see things other than dance parties that spontaneously break out.

some people say its sad we cant build a house or stuff like that , like in permenent worlds ... but we could for sure make non permenent fun actions , even being able to setup a tent or a fire , stuff that would desapear if you logoff or move to another place .

Objects that alow actions like the ear ring for the rpg , sounds very good,
make it for sale in later towns , so its not spamed by noobs with anykind of nonsence abuse of chat room
cose we really have a problem , if there is a trade chat room and people spam the all chat , something faild , for sure the devs where not expecting this to hapand in a so huge scale ...

people mostly group in storage for trade .. thats where in all towns you see a group of people .. that means there are no reasons to group beside trading , i agree its sad.

one thing i think it would be cool for mostly pve players , since pvp/gvg players have a ladder ... somekind of unique professions , like titles , with some special powers.

like the king and the queen.

the problem with this is , i can see it already for sale in ebay , guildwars acount with kind char ... but im sure devs can think of something to make it not worth a dollar , something that is only for RP lovers , the king and queen would be those who help more noobs or something , something that hardcore ebay players dont do .. if you know what i mean.

DUNGEONS this game needs DUNGEONS, not caves, DUNGEONS. hehe I'd like to see a whole expansion on Dungeons. Call it "Lost Dungeons of Guild Wars" Tight corridors, trapped doors, floor traps that drop you in the middle of hell (lots of mobs). New class rogue that has trap detection skills and unlocking (yes need to have locked doors to make them needed and useful in groups.) A dungeon mission sort of like "Sword of Fargoal" (anyone remember that one but me?). It was 20 levels of dungeon and you had to find the Sword of Fargoal and once you did you only had 30 minutes to get back out of the dungeon, now THAT's what GW's needs for the PVE game. Some Adrinilin flowing mission like that. This is the most bland PVE rpg I've ever played cause it ain't got no dungeons.

I agree with the original poster. Coming from a game like CoH where community plays a major part in the game...going into GW is a start difference...in that there is very little real community.

In CoH many people gather under a giant statue...a statue of the hero Atlas holding a giant Earth globe...people gather under there to talk, show off their costume and have costume contests for money. There is nothing special about the place...but it's just an easy place for everyone to gather.

I think the one thing that makes the community so much deeper in that game is the fact people don't rely on henchmen..they group up with other people (and it's much easier than in this game) and form bonds..make friends that they play with consistantly...THAT is how to make a good community. When the grouping is easy and good...so is the community.=)

Would there also be a way we could let players procreate, and then give birth to a new level 1 character? Maybe like having a kid or something. And we could watch it too. Nevermind, this is rated T, not Z (for a depraved person like me).

Anyways, I liek these ideas!!
